“When I looked into the origins of the word ‘icon’, I saw connections to terms such as ‘likeness’ and ‘familiarity’. It led me to thinking about idolized figures and the likeness we share, but also the distance we feel between ‘us’ and ‘them’. The image on a screen is larger than life, which is intimidating, but a likeness remains beyond this. This piece was created with acrylic paints on canvas, finished with a matte varnish and a bespoke hand painted frame.”
Eloise Dörr is an artist based in London; her work often presents small, playful characters in a range of environments. These signature characters were conceptualized shortly after Eloise began skateboarding over a decade ago, when her life-long interest in art and new found love of skateboarding quickly and organically merged together.
Since then Eloise has collaborated creatively with brands such as Vans, ASOS, Mob Grip, Nike SB, The BumBag Co, Dickies and more. Eloise has exhibited her work in 8 solo exhibitions and over 20 group shows, her most recent solo exhibition being ‘Through The Fog’ at Thames Side Studios in London in April 2022.
