Mona’s Pool by Ken Rush

During this Covid period, I have been obsessively painting swimming pools. It just made sense to make the swimming pool a Mona Lisa pool—-after all, Leonardo professed an enormous interest in the visual mystery and the physical capability of water.

 

Ken Rush

Ken Rush (b. 1948) balances his time between Brooklyn and Vermont. He graduated from the Taft School and the Syracuse University School of Fine Arts, where he was the recipient of the senior award in painting. He also studied at the Sir John Cass College of Art in London, England, and at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.

Between 2001 and 2009, his work was represented by Katharina Rich Perlow Gallery in New York City, where he had a one-person exhibition in 2006. He is currently represented by Three Pears Gallery in Dorset, Vermont and Court Tree Gallery, Brooklyn, New York. Ken’s paintings have been reviewed in Artnews, Vermont Life, and many regional publications. His work is in the permanent public collections of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, the Brooklyn Historical Society, The Bennington Museum, The New York State Museum, the New York City health and hospital collection,and the Syracuse University SUArt Galleries. Ken’s 1990s children’s books (The Seltzer Man, Friday’s Journey, and What About Emma?) were reviewed in The New York Times Book Review, Booklist, Publisher’s Weekly, Smithsonian Magazine, and School Library Journal. Ken was the high school visual arts and art history teacher at the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn Heights from 1978 to 2015.
