Founded in 2019 by designer and curator Marin Horikawa, Safe and Sound Gallery is an independent contemporary art space located in the heart of downtown Burlington, Vermont. Drawing from over two decades of experience as a design director for global brands, Horikawa brings a distinctive sensibility that bridges the worlds of fine art, design, and visual culture.

Safe and Sound Gallery was established with the belief that art should feel approachable yet thought-provoking—something that can exist both within a local community and as part of a global conversation. The gallery’s program spans a diverse range of practices, from painting, illustration, and sculpture to design-driven and interdisciplinary work. By presenting both emerging local voices and internationally recognized artists, Safe and Sound Gallery fosters meaningful dialogue across cultures and creative disciplines.

Beyond exhibitions, the gallery serves as a hub for creative exchange, hosting talks, workshops, and collaborations that connect artists, designers, and audiences in unexpected ways. Each show is curated with an emphasis on narrative, process, and craftsmanship—qualities that reflect Horikawa’s design background and his deep appreciation for authenticity in creative work.

Ultimately, Safe and Sound Gallery exists as a meeting place between art and design, global perspective and local roots, concept and form—a space where ideas are shared, disciplines overlap, and creativity thrives in its most human, tangible form.

The gallery is open every Saturday 12 - 5 PM
